April 5th Brown Bag Seminar: Green Eelgrass, Blue Carbon by Dr. Julie Simpson of MIT Sea Grant

MIT Sea Grant College Program Brown Bag SeminarTuesday April, 5thE38-3rd Floor Conference Room12:00 ยค 1:00pmEelgrass meadows are critical coastal ecosystems, helping to tie down sediments, improving water clarity and providing a habitat for marine animals like fish, scallops, crabs and lobsters. Julie Simpson is working with several partners to conduct a study to quantify the carbon storage of eelgrass beds in Massachusetts. By understanding the role that eelgrass ecosystems play in preparing for and mitigating the effects of climate change we can better make the case for securing protection and restoration resources. We encourage attendees to bring their lunch to the seminar. The seminar is open to the public. Please pass this announcement along to interested parties. Questions can be sent to KBaltes@mit.edu.
