MIT Sea Grant provides competitive funding opportunities through our Core Request For Proposals (RFP) for Massachusetts research scientists who seek to address marine issues in ways that benefit the Commonwealth.

We will hold an informational Open House for our FY2026-2028 RFP on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 12pm – 2pm (hybrid) to review anticipated topics and provide guidance for interested applicants. Please RSVP here to attend in-person or virtually.

MIT Sea Grant will welcome proposals up to $170,000 annually, for a total of $340,000 over a two-year period. A 50% non-federal match is required. The full RFP and additional information will be available on our Core RFP page in late January.

MIT Sea Grant will focus our FY2026-2028 funding on the following areas of research:

  • Sustainable aquaculture and seafood processing
  • Offsetting climate impacts to coastal and ocean environments
  • Tracking and preventing impacts of marine debris
  • Ocean applications of biotechnology
  • Engineering for ocean uses
  • Decarbonization of fisheries and the seafood industry
