Dense and predictable resource, its exploitation doesn’t involve any land consumption. Since the first patent in the 18th Century and more recently since the ’70s to nowadays it is the objective of many efforts, both public and private, to create reliable and cost-effective wave farms. Several wave energy devices are currently deployed at sea in testing sites across the world. The ISWEC (Inertial Sea Wave Energy Converter) is a gyroscopic wave energy converter thought to harvest energy from low power sea states. It was developed at the Politecnico di Torino and deployed by the spin-off company Wave for Energy Srl at the Pantelleria Island in the Channel of Sicily.Giovanni Bracco obtained is Master in Mechanical Engineering and his PhD in Mechanics at the Politecnico di Torino in Italy. He is now Assistant Professor at the Politecnico, with research field on offshore renewable energy system. His research activities deal with the analysis, development and integration of offshore wave and wind systems.We encourage attendees to bring their lunch to the seminar.
