In this project, researchers are developing and deploying inexpensive, low-power pressure sensors. These sensors will be able to passively detect dynamic and static pressure fields with sufficient resolution to detect the objects and bodies creating the disturbance. Also under development are the pressure-signal processing algorithms that will carry out the detection. The sensor system, namely the sensors plus algorithms, will enable better ocean observation, environmental monitoring, and fisheries observation, especially in near-shore areas, where vehicles are subject to strong waves and currents as well as multiple obstacles.
