An Investigation of Transient Tidal Eddies in the Western Gulf of Maine

Very high energy eddies have recently been detected in the Western Gulf of Maine; however, little is known about them. In this project, researchers will study the structure and dynamics of these eddy processes. The findings should be of particular interest to fisheries resource mangers as the study should improve understanding of how large upwelling and downwelling related to energetic eddies affect biological productivity and fisheries recruitment.
