Fern Gibbons was chosen by MIT Sea Grant for a Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship, class of 2012. Fern has been placed in the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, Republican Staff, for the period February 1, 2012-January 31, 2013.
Fern is currently enrolled in the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography. There she studies the past climate of the tropical IndoPacific. She uses the chemical signature of tiny marine fossils to estimate changes in the oceanÂ’s temperatures over the past 20,000 years. She lives in Somerville, MA with her husband and toddler.
The Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship was established in 1979 to provide a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The program matches highly qualified graduate students with “hosts” in the legislative and executive branch of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one year paid fellowship.
