Danny Badger
Marine Extension Specialist — Aquaculture
Danny Badger has served as the Marine Extension Specialist with the MIT Sea Grant College Program since 2021, focusing on aquaculture. Projects have ranged from administering Covid-recovery grants for the shellfishing communities, developing guidance for farmers to prepare for and respond to oil spills, building a stronger workforce for the aquaculture sector, exploring the interplay between aquaculture and vital components of the ecosystem (like eelgrass), supporting educational initiatives that lead to better appreciation of and connection to a robust aquaculture sector, and advising constituents on the opportunities for aquaculture to improve the resilience of communities on and near the coast. Prior to joining MIT, Danny spent more than a decade leveraging his degrees in marine science and a passion for working with youth to inspire the next generation of ocean-aware community members, developing and directing marine science camps and educational programming at the New England Aquarium. While at the Aquarium, he cultured jellies, taught a myriad of programs to a broad range of audiences, developed and facilitated multi-institute participatory-science programs, and built a championship-winning aquarium softball team – The Red Tide.
