National Marine Fisheries Service-Sea Grant Population Dynamics Fellow
Benjamin Galuardi has been a PhD Fellow at the School of Marine Science and Technology at UMass Dartmouth and MIT Sea Grant since January, 2012. He has been a researcher at the Large Pelagics Research Center at the UMass Amherst Marine Station, and previously at University of New Hampshire, since 2006. He has worked extensively on spatial analyses of movement and oceanographic associations for bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) and other large marine species and has additional experience monitoring endangered fish populations of the Colorado River (Grand Canyon). Drawing on his extensive knowledge of electronic tagging of marine animals, his 10 years of research on bluefin tuna, and a background in geographic and statistical analysis, his PhD studies are focused on utilizing movement information from electronic tagging studies in fisheries stock assessment and management frameworks. Galuardi is committed to the development of open source methods for data analysis and visualization.
