Robert L. Stephenson

Dr. Robert Stephenson has been a research scientist with the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans since 1984, and is currently Director of the St. Andrews Biological Station (St. Andrews, New Brunswick). Rob has worked extensively on the ecology, assessment, and management of Atlantic herring. His current research interests include fisheries resource evaluation, fisheries management science, strategies for conservation of biodiversity, application of integrated management and the ecosystem approach, and aspects of the history of marine science and policy. Rob has been an active contributor to fisheries science internationally, including roles as chair of ICES Resource Management and Pelagic Fish Committees and membership of the ICES Advisory Committee on Fisheries Management. In 1999-2000 he was visiting Research Professor at the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute (Helsinki, Finland). Rob received his B.Sc. (Hons) from Trent University (Peterborough, Ontario, 1976), and his Ph.D. from the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, N.Z., 1981).
