Robert J. Johnston is Director of the George Perkins Marsh Institute and Professor of Economics at Clark University. Prior to 2008 he was Associate Director of Connecticut Sea Grant. He received his BA from Williams College and PhD from the University of Rhode Island. Among other appointments, he is currently President-Elect of the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA), on the Program Committee for the Charles Darwin Foundation, the Science Advisory Board for the Communication Partnership for Science and the Sea (COMPASS), the Gulf of Maine Regional Ocean Science Council, and is Vice President of the Marine Resource Economics Foundation. Professor Johnston has published extensively on the valuation of non-market commodities and ecosystem services, benefit transfer and meta-analysis, and the management of aquatic and coastal resources. This includes co-authorship of a forthcoming book from RFF Press, Economic Analysis for Ecosystem Based Management: Applications to Marine and Coastal Environments. Professor Johnston's work on valuation, benefit transfer, fisheries and environmental economics has contributed to federal, state and local policy in the US, Canada and elsewhere.
