When oceanographic moorings are deployed, they are constantly affected by ocean currents and waves; this study addresses how cable structures respond to such forces. The investigators examine wave propagation in strings with rigid bodies using the method transfer matrices. A unique feature of this work is that the rigid body model developed accounts for the effects of the finite size of a body. The results, presented herein, may be applied to the propagation of vibration in complex cable systems such as oceanographic moorings.
