Plastic and composite materials offer many advantages as structural and mechanical components for deep-ocean vehicles such as autonomous underwater vehicles. However, little published information exists regarding volume change and dimensional change. This report describes experimental results on the dimensional change of 16 rigid plastic and composite materials exposed to hydrostatic pressures equivalent to a water depth of 6 km. These results provide data that will be useful in incorporating these materials in deep-ocean designs.
