Chitosan, Metal Salt, and Polyacrylamide Jar Tests at the Gloucester Water Pollution Control Facility

MITSG 92-12

This report grew out of a proposal to conduct a series of jar tests to determine the efficacy of chitosan as a coagulant in wastewater treatment and to compare chitosan with metal salts in improving primary effluent quality. The testing took place at the Gloucester (Massachusetts) Water Pollution Control Facility. The basic data for the Gloucester primary treatment plant are reviewed, and a performance analysis is made of that facility; jar test results are reported.
