This report compiles synopses of presentations given at an MIT Collegium symposium. Current research topics in sensor technology include electrochemical amperometric sensors, polymer-based electrochemical ion gas sensors, use of cytochrome P450 induction as a marker for pollutants, and electrochemiluminescence in immunoassays and fiber optic sensors. A bibliography of relevant publications is included. A number of talks also address the monitoring and sampling needs of ocean scientists. These include air-sea interface processes and measurement, marine environmental measurement, and the National Research Council Panel's deliberations on measurement technologies for the oceans.
