Shaft Resistance of Piles in Clay

When foundation soils are weak, as they are in soft clays or offshore environments, piles often provide the only foundation that can reliably support structures. As an aid to pile design, the authors propose a new method for elucidating, formulating and predicting the axial capacity of friction piles in moderately overconsolidated clays.
