Spectral Wave Attenuation by Bottom Friction: Theory

This study builds on a recently derived relationship between spectral descriptions and statistics of individual waves to bridge the gap between two methods of computing spectral wave attenuation due to bottom friction. A simple method is presented that needs only the surface wave spectrum (based on height and period) and the bottom roughness for calculation of wave attenuation by bottom dissipation. The method is shown to be accurate for the important range of intermediate to shallow water waves.
