Rupture analysis of ship plating due to hydrodynamic wave impact.

A new analytical procedure for predicting the damage of stiffened ship structures under hydrodynamic impact loads is developed. The safe range of relevant structural and loading parameters is presented in easy-to-follow formulas and design charts. Finally, a numerical example is worked out to illustrate each step of the procedure and to identify the effects of changing the geometry and loading variables on the likelihood of plating rupture.
