Computational Reconstruction of Images from Holograms.

In this paper the authors describe a method of digitizing 2D holograms in a conventional high-resolution film scanner and then reconstructing the 3D image computationally. By optimizing the mathematical algorithms, they have done image reconstructions both with and without the Fresnel approximation. Examples of holographically recorded images of marine micro-organisms are included, and computational method for counting the number of microorganisms in the holographically recorded volume is also described.
