As part of ongoing efforts to involve the public in discussions about current management of Gulf of Maine resources and existing and potential Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the region, the New England Aquarium and the MIT Sea Grant Program held a workshop last fall in Portland, Maine. Using information gathered previously at public meetings and an online forum, the facilitators focused the workshop on the role of MPAs in the Gulf of Maine and ways to increase stakeholder participation in designation and management. This report summarizes the discussions and was presented to the NOAA National Marine Protected Area Center.
