MIT Sea Grant's 2007 Calendar offers spectacular panoramic sweeps of Boston, reflections of a model ship in shop-front windows, the sun- drenched image of lobster traps washed ashore, and much more. The calendar's photographs, taken by award-winning visual artist and writer Emily Hiestand, reflect how one Massachusetts dweller pays attention to, preserves, and shares the richness of our marine and coastal heritage. The photos are homages to watery scenes both urban and less tamed, and some owe their vantage point to the MV Buji, a small boat that Emily and her husband Peter skipper out of Boston Harbor. The calendar also serves as a small portal to our work at MIT Sea Grant, from outreach in fishing communities to research that will help us better prepare for hurricanes. Measuring 9" by 9" (folded), the wall calendar makes a compelling gift for oneself and others.
