Proposal Summary

The ESRDC team will use the early-stage-ship-design cloud computing environment that the team has launched to ensure
effective collaboration among the organizations and to facilitate Navy participation and visibility for the activity. It is
important that current ESRDC research and development activities continue in parallel.
This investigation focuses on a specific near-term set of solutions for advanced power systems in a DDG51 hull. ESRDC
will advance credible arguments for the benefits and shortfalls of each of the IPS architectures based on the selected
topology and the voltage classes needed to serve the loads. The arguments will be based on the electrical IPS responses,
the thermal responses and the control system requirements. ESRDC will also help in the development of the design tools
and models for inclusion in the separately funded cloud computational environment, and will evaluate the results obtained
using the tools and models.
