MIT Sea Grant 2016 Research Funding Opportunity: Ocean Acidification

The next MIT Sea Grant research funding opportunity will be announced in early January. Among the focus areas identified in the MIT Sea Grant Strategic Plan, assessing impacts to coastal waters and habitats are of importance for managing healthy coastal ecosystems. The 2016 MIT Sea Grant call for proposals will focus on research projects that address acidification in coastal waters. The topic of carbon processes in coastal habitats (Blue Carbon) included in the initial funding announcement will be postponed and may be included in future opportunities.

Specific focus areas that will be considered under ocean acidification include:

- Development of sensors and platforms;
- Data modeling and analysis;
- Data storage and dissemination; and
- Effects of ocean acidification on critical life stages.

A public information meeting will be held at the MIT Sea Grant office between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon on January 23, 2015, to provide guidance for interested applicants.
