Ocean Science Interns final presentation

Ocean Science Interns will present their research to the Sea Grant community on Friday, July 27, from noon - 1pm in the Sea Grant conference room. A light lunch will be served.

iPhone and Arduino: Collecting Water Temperature Data

Presented by: Husayn Karimi

Supervisors: Prof. George Karniadakis and Chrys Chryssostomidis

Description: Development of an iPhone application that utilizes the freedom of an open-source microcontroller such as the Arduino to feed data to the phone will be presented. With location capabilities also integrated, the application creates stamps with coordinates, and time/date which are then sent to a web server so they can be retrieved by other iPhones or computers.

Intertidal Ecology of the Boston Harbor Islands

Presented by: Isabelle Holt, Jeffrey Ho, Pavlina Karafillis, and Carolann Schack

Supervisors: Kate Longley and Judy Pederson

Description: Student participants will present the results of a week-long series of surveys of the intertidal zones of Lovells and Spectacle Island. Topics will include trends in intertidal ecology, biodiversity, and introduced species on the islands, as well as a comparison between this year's and last year's data.
