Daniel Sura is a consultant at the MIT Sea Grant College Program working in wireless underwater communications research for offshore oilfield applications. In past and current research projects, he has worked on an array of Ocean Engineering projects including propeller cavitation studies at the MIT Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory, swimming sea snake flow characterization, drag reduction for turbulent flows, underwater communication studies, and offshore AUV deployments with the MIT Sea Grant.

He founded AppliedOcean Systems in 2010 to develop and commercialize underwater communication technology for various offshore industries and is currently working closely with the MIT Sea Grant laboratory to enable AUV platforms to stream video wirelessly to the operator in real-time.

He has a very deep passion for the ocean, dating back to offshore diving and exploration with his father during his early youth and surfing and searching for perfect waves across the globe.
