FIELD TRIP OPTIONS
We are offering the following field trips, if there is enough interest. If we do not have a minimum number of people, the trip will be cancelled.
If you would like to participate in any of these please send an email with the name of the field trip to Lynne Lenker at llenker@mit.edu. All trips will take place on Sunday, May 20, 2007.
Field Trip: Mini Rapid Assessment Survey
We are offering an opportunity to conduct a mini rapid assessment survey of floating
docks to identify native and non-native species. The survey will take place from
9 am to 2 pm on Sunday, May 20, 2007. Dress is casual, sneakers are advised,
but we will not be going in the water. Animals are scraped or pulled from the
sides of docks (hands and arms may get wet) for those who want to fully participate.
Lunch and transportation will be provided. Please register as space is limited.

Field Trip: Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Woods Hole is home to the Marine Biological Laboratory, the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution (WHOI), and the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Although
most scientists are not working on Sunday, the village of Woods Hole and its
shops are open. We will visit the WHOI dock for and observe the spring growth
of a sea squirt, Didemnum sp. that has spread throughout the region and parts
of Georges Bank, an offshore fishing area. Buses will leave Boston around 9 am
and leave Woods Hole around 2 PM (It is approximately 2 hours travel each way).

Field Trip: North Shore, Massachusetts
This field trip will make two stops on the North Shore stopping at the Heritage
Center in Gloucester, Massachusetts and either Bear Point (shopping area) or
Halibut Point rocky shore and old granite quarry, Rockport, Massachusetts. The
Heritage Center has a small aquaculture facility and tanks with experiments on
growing eelgrass, Zostera marina. Lunch is on your own. Cost ~$ 40.00
