MIT SEA GRANT COLLEGE PROGRAM
Implementation Plan 2003-2007

Introduction:

Contained in this Implementation Plan are details that we will rely on to maintain our focus on our strategic goals, and to maintain a consistent and productive research agenda. Our Implementation Plan consist of two distinct parts: our Functional Goals and how we achieve them, and our program’s Thematic or Strategic Goals and the process we have in place to realize them.

This detailed second section addresses the specific strategic goals as set forth in our Strategic Plan, matches its structure and contains details as to how we intend to satisfy each of them. It commits to certain programmatic activities to establish on-going awareness and proper oversight.

Mission:

The mission of the MIT Sea Grant College Program is to lead the development of technology and the pursuit of scientific investigation addressing important problems surrounding human use of and impact on coastal waters and oceans. Through research, education and outreach, we are committed to the sustainable development of those resources.

Vision:

The Sea Grant College Program at MIT is positioned to bring the substantial intellectual abilities of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and our institutional collaborators to bear on a number of ocean-related challenges requiring extraordinary technical contribution. In successfully meeting these challenges, we will not only expand our knowledge of the ocean, but also establish the collaborative infrastructure essential to ensuring the sustained initiatives and talent building needed to address the complex issues related to our critical and fragile marine resources.
