General Guidelines - Core Program Research Projects
Funding
The maximum annual research project budget request to be considered for FY2008 Core Research Projects is $75,000 for a total of $150,000 for a two-year project. This does not include the required matching funds provided by the PI, which amount to one-third of total project cost - a 50% match. Matching funds must be from non-federal sources and can include cash, salaries, equipment, supplies, ship-time, etc.
Additional award money can be sought by integrating an education and/or an advisory and outreach component into the research proposal. Each additional effort of this nature may be awarded up to $5,000 per year. For example, a project that includes both education and advisory activities can request increased funding of $10,000 per year, for a total of $85,000/year. (Actual funds are dependent on the overall annual funding of the MIT Sea Grant Program.)
Project Duration
Core program projects last for up to two years. The PI is required to submit a project timeline as part of the proposal process.
A researcher who wishes to apply for Core Program funding must follow MIT Sea Grant's should adhere to the deadlines given in the Proposal Schedule and follow the instructions and use the forms available online for preparing the Preliminary Proposal and the Full Proposal.
